According to a new study by personal finance website GoBankingRates , the answer has shifted dramatically in the last decade. Its analysis shows the income needed to be considered middle-class ballooned from $35,364 in 2012 to $50,099 in 2022 - the most recent data available. And the findings can vary even more depending on the state. For example, households in Maryland need the highest salary of any US state to be considered middle-class. The income bracket to hit the threshold ranges from $65,641 to $196,922.

The mother of a New Jersey 'deadbeat dad' whose son died of abuse broke down in court as she revealed the furious phone call she received from him at the hospital following the little boy's death. Christopher Gregor 31, is accused of forcing his six-year-old son, Corey Micciolo, to run on a treadmill because he was 'too fat'. The little boy died soon after from injuries sustained from the alleged abuse. On the sixth day of Gregor's trial his mother Carol Gregor took the stand to recall the moment she learned of Corey's death from her son. Carol described a phone call she received from the hospital where her grandson had died. 'Chris is hysterical,' she said - adding that he was screaming 'what did she do to him' about the little boy's mother, Breanna Micciolo. Gregor's mother then chokes back tears as she describes the exact moment Gregor told her 'Corey passed'.

US Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, was identified as the young man shot dead in a shooting last Friday afternoon. Cartier McDaniel, from Denver, fell ill on April 8 and was rushed to the Children's Hospital Colorado after his condition worsened. His heart stopped and then suddenly restarted 19 hours later. Doctors said they had no medical explanation for how it happened, but Cartier's father, Dominique, said: 'It was God.'

A hotel owner has died in Brazil as a result of complications she experienced from plastic surgery. Fábia Portilho underwent a mammoplasty and liposuction at Unique Hospital Hospital in Goiânia on last Saturday and died from pulmonary fatty thromboembolism and obstructive shock, her family said. The 52-year-old was released from the hospital Sunday, according to a Civil Police report. She was admitted to the medical facility Tuesday after complaining of discomfort on her abdomen and died hours later.

Police in Colorado Springs uncovered crucial new evidence using genetic genealogy DNA to identify a suspect in the gruesome murder. Maria Loraine Honzell, 14, was found dead with multiple stab wounds to her chest and neck on February 7, 1977. She was babysitting two children, aged six and eight, for a neighbor at the time and they were home when she was killed but they were not harmed. Authorities used new technology to analyze DNA from the night and they are confident William Charles Kernan Jr, who died in 2010, was the one who murdered Honzell.

The interviewer is going head-to-head with the woman thought to be the stalker who appears in comedian Richard Gadd's hit show. Ms Harvey is set to 'repeatedly deny' stalking Gadd. She will also say she will be taking legal action. George Sandoval, an angry Subway customer, allegedly attacked the General Manager, Monique Larios on May 2 at a store in Madera, California. He punched her in the face over extra ham. Larios said that was called into work that day because Sandoval started to get angry with other employees. 'I did not expect it. He came around the corner and I said, "What are you going to do, hit me over ham?" And he hit me. He punched me and all I could remember is just black,' she told KFSN .

Two men started having a loud shouting match, which escalated into a physical brawl across a row of seats as a Spirit Airlines flight touched down in Boston on Tuesday.
