A Pennsylvania police officer and military veteran has been charged with raping a 13-month-old baby and blaming it on 'diaper rash' and the family dog. Steven Kyle Cugini, 28, of York, Pennsylvania, was arrested Tuesday on charges of rape and aggravated assault. The investigation was led by the Pennsylvania State Police Lykens Criminal Investigation unit. The Lykens unit responded to reports of severe bruising of a 13-month-old child between April 11 and April 15. According to criminal complaints, the child suffered from a broken tibia and fibula on her left leg, along with other injuries that suggest sexual abuse. Cugini first tried to blame the baby's injuries on diaper rash, a fall and the family dog. He eventually admitted to the crimes to police officers after questioning - and confirmed that the injuries occurred while he had been caring for the child by himself.

Two people have died and four people are in hospital including a teen who is fighting for her life after the driver of the car they were in lost control and slammed into an Arizona family's home. Unlocked: A Jail Experiment follows an experiment by Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins that sees the inmates allowed to seemingly roam free inside the Pulaski County jail in Little Rock after their cells are unlocked for days. The Pulaski County Government has asked for more details of how the production came to be, particularly the agreement between Higgins and the production company, Lucky 8. Higgins has told officials that he handed the $60,000 check to the finance director and the comptroller's office on March 28. He was not personally paid for his appearance. Additionally, two staff members in the jail were paid for working off-duty hours, at $40 per hour.  The sheriff says this was the only compensation given to participants, as reported by KATV. The probe comes as a mother speaks of the pain of seeing her son's accused killer on the Netflix show. Hailey Shackelford says she has been unable to finish the show, which features inmate Jordan Parkinson, who was charged with her son Jadon Shackleford's murder 'I've started it and stopped it many times,' the mother told Fox16 .

A mom-to-be has lifted the lid on her 'uncomfortable' experience working in a men's maximum security prison while seven months pregnant. Bella Aguilar, from California, is a former prison maintenance supervisor who worked in a jail for seven years. The 27-year-old even continued working at the prison while she was expecting a baby, despite it being extremely 'depressing' and difficult on her mental health. At the beginning of her pregnancy, Bella tried to hide her baby bump with baggy clothes, however, after she could no longer conceal that she was bearing a child, working alongside the criminals became terrifying.

A gunfight broke out on Tuesday evening at a Circle K gas station in Decatur between at least four men with bullets flying across the forecourt of the garage. Three innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire as they fled, with two of the men, aged 32 and 44, hospitalized and a third grazed by a bullet. Police arrested Darius Morris, 34, and he was charged with three counts of aggravated assault - they are still searching for the other suspects.

An impressive 1,475 statues have filled the landscape beside a D-Day memorial overlooking France 's Golden Beach in honour of each of the servicemen who fell during the historic mission. The Standing with Giants silhouettes are part of the For Your Tomorrow installation at the British Normandy Memorial, in Ver-Sur-Mer, France. In a stunning nod to the servicemen who fell on D-Day itself, almost 80 years ago, the fields within the British Normandy Memorial campus have been filled with two-metre-tall statues of soldiers - representing the three military services. Alongside the 1,475 silhouettes, the project will also install bespoke 'giants' to represent the only two women on the Memorial, nurses Sisters Evershed and Field. The two heroic women died while saving 75 men from a sinking hospital ship.
